BEYOND NUNO: A Guide to Using Fabrics in Wet Felting (PDF) US $21

Buy Now

Beyond Nuno explores the use of fabrics in the art of making wool felt by the traditional wet-felting method. It features the fabrics most commonly used in felting--silk, organza and the open-weave cottons scrim, cheesecloth and muslin. There are also additional sections on synthetic fabrics and other lightweight cottons.

The book shows how these fabrics work with wool to create certain effects and how they can be used effectively and manipulated with different techniques.

Unlike project based books, the content focuses on how and why these fabrics work the way they do to provide the info you need for more control over the outcome of your nuno felting; how to achieve the effects you desire, and provide a basis for continued experimentation instead of feeling that felting is all just ‘guess-work’.

There are 72 pages and 190 full-colour, high quality photos in the book. Every photo is taken carefully to clearly demonstrate the information in the text. There are also many supermacro shots to show high definition examples of wool fibres and fabric weave to further illustrate the information, and because this is an e-book, all the photos can be enlarged up to 300% for even more detail without losing any quality.

Although nuno felting is seen as an ‘advanced skill’ in felting, I think anyone who has tried felting will find this book very easy to understand and follow. In the introduction, there’s a small step by step demonstration of how I felt, and I’ve included a small glossary at the end to help make things clear.

  3. Bonjour - I just bought your e-book. Wonderful! Being new to felting, it contained exactly the type of info needed. Most other publications contain a few projects with how-tos but never really explain why the fabric produced the result/effect. Your cause & effect detail allows artisans to free their creativity with confidence, knowing what the end result will (potentially) be - or at least what to expect. You also did not limit yourself to the accepted "rules" of what fabrics should or shouldn't be used in felting. Merci beacoup! best regards, Cherie

    1. Hi, as long as you have a PDF reader you should be able to. I know a couple of people have had issues with Apples, but after googling how to open PDFs, got it sorted. I'd recommend copying it to a cd/dvd/USB no matter what type of computer anyone has, just for safety or using on a different machine. It is just a standard PDF document, though. I hope that helps :)

  7. Hi Zed, please excuse my computer ineptitude, I am interested in your book but have a question about PDF files. Is it possible to print the pages after I download the file? My computer is nowhere near my work table, and my short-term memory is insufficient...I need to reference my books frequently!

    1. Hi :)

Yeah, the pages are all printable, and if I'm not mistaken, it should be possible to copy selected text for printing out too, you know in case you don't want/need photos... copy and paste onto a Word document the parts of text you want/need.

      I hope that helps :)

  9. Hi Lori, Once you download it you can do whatever you want with it really (except sell it and copy for all your mates!!), so Yeah, feel free to copy it on to your phone, a tablet etc, I'd recommend making a hard copy if possible-like burning to a dvd. Or keeping a copy on a memory stick etc. If you're talking about downloading from the host site, I'm not sure. I know you are allowed 5 'attempts' at downloading the file, whether the site allows you to download it more than once is something I've never tried.
